Minnis Bay is a great place to learn to windsurf and to progress.
We don't get big waves, but we do have a wide bay with relatively safe conditions.
The club even has several beginner's boards for members members to borrow.
We are a Club, not a training centre.
As such, if you would like formal lessons, then we recommend attending a Start Windsurfing course at a recognised RYA Training Centre. Look up the RYA.org website for more details.
Our nearest centre is in Maidstone. Contact Stuart Clarke at Mote Park Watersports (07595 539555).
Throughout the year we run coaching sessions for our members, with RYA recognised profession instructors or trainers.
Whether that be intermediate improvers wanting to crack their first waterstart, or advanced sailors improving their wind-foiling technique, we cover a range with something for everyone.
New last season was wing-foiling, which has proved very popular and will continue in years to come.
The cost of each coaching session varies depending on the kit needed and the number of people attending that session, and is in addition to normal Club membership fees.
The Club runs coaching sessions on windsurfing and wind foiling for those wishing to advance their skills.
We sometimes run sessions for absolute beginners depending on their previous watersports experience.
Outside of our coaching programme, you will always find another windsurfer willing to pass on their knowledge for a bit of ad-hoc support.
We have recently added wing-surfing and wing-foiling to our coaching programme.
We have pro-coaches who visit us regularly for full day or half day sessions.
All equipment can be provided for beginners, or more advanced members can receive coaching on their own kit.
Each membership season runs from the beginning of April to the end of March the following year, no matter when you join during the year.
Club Member membership covers you, as well as your partner and children.
Each member receives a special car park ticket allowing them to park in the Minnis Bay car park for free. During the summer months visitors normally have to pay a daily charge. This must be displayed in your car/van windscreen and entitles you to use one space in the marked area at the rear of the car park.
If you think you will regularly want to borrow club equipment, rather than buy your own, then an additional annual fee of £80 is charged for the first year and £160 for each year thereafter. This is always subject to availability.
There are boards ranging from 130L up to 220L, plus sails from 4m to 6.5m to borrow.
We also have a stock of wetsuits in several sizes, as well as buoyancy aids and a few harnesses.
Sorry, but we do not have equipment for hire to day visitors.
All members have access to other Club kit, such as the tandem, stand-up paddleboards, and spares if they have forgotten something.
Here is a video of one of our members trying out wind-foiling for the very first time!
